We are a small kennel, located in the Netherlands, about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam towards the German border and we are specialized in American Bulldogs. Although I would not really say we have a kennel, we are more Bulldog enthusiasts who have a few more pet dogs than the average person.
Our dogs go where we go, to the French mountains where we have a house, to family visits or to Amsterdam, where we have an apartment in the city center. It is important for us that the dogs get used to different situations, like crowded areas, children, but can also walk of the lead when we are in the mountains and remain close to where we are.
The dog’s character plays an important role in what we do, every dog is different and likes different things to do. For example our oldest dog doesn’t like to be around extremely active dogs for a long time, then he goes to another room to be alone.
An American bulldog is an extremely loyal dog and great with a bit older children. Just because of their size and weight, I would not let them play with very small children. When they are older and have a similar weight to the dogs, it is a lot of fun to see them play together. Our oldest dog is extremely gentle with children and lets them often win during a tug of war match.
American bulldogs are very social animals, they like each other’s company and they like to be with people. When they are trained properly, they can easily be left alone in the house for several hours. When they are younger though, till can chew a lot, we’ve lost a rug and a chair and several dog pillows.
Training from a very young age is very important for this breed and is necessary through their whole life. They need an owner who is very strict and firm with them. They are stubborn dogs, who like to do what they want. With the weight of a male, which can be well over 50 kilo’s, the dogs needs to listen to you at all times.
